Biography: All About The Children

Delivering more than a half ton of fun and with more than 250 years of cumulative life experience, Children of Celebrities are proud to announce the release of their second full length album 'We're Not Bitter'. Touching on themes that range from hockey to impotence to murder, "they inhabit that nebulous middle ground between country, bluegrass and whatever it is that Tom Waits does." (Monday Magazine).

Children of Celebrities released their debut album 'Middle Age Wasteland' in the winter of 2004/05. Wasteland featured twelve original songs and became one of Victoria's most highly regarded and popular albums of 2005. The band invaded the radio airwaves in Victoria on CFUV, Village 900 and CBC, CKDU in Halifax, CFBX in Kamloops, CFMH in Saint John, CJSR in Edmonton, CJSF in Vancouver, CHLY in Nanaimo among many others (as faraway as roots radio programs in Europe!) an on-air television appearance as video artist of the week on A-Channel as well as being featured on Shaw cable's "The Daily" in Victoria. Tolan McNeil, a favourite son of Victoria, was nominated for a 2005 Vancouver Island Music Award for his work as producer on the album. In the annual Monday Magazine Reader’s Poll in 2005 the Children took home two M Awards - 'Favourite Local CD' and ‘Favourite Group’. In keeping with their newfound notoriety the Children kept their momentum rolling by contributing a track – Retro Help - to Self Righteous Records' 'Cavalcade of the Scars' compilation. Alongside acts such as David P. Smith, Carolyn Mark and Meatdraw among others, 'Cavalcade' was the 2nd most played album of 2006 at Victoria's campus station CFUV as well as placement on the top 50 of the Canada-wide college charts.

Often seen busking on the streets, performing at coffee shops and bars and playing at summer festivals and markets, Victoria’s kings of enviro-cowboy lounge music have returned with their most ambitious project yet. We're Not Bitter is sure to appeal to musical aficionados and oddballs alike. With a collection of twelve new original songs and a couple of their favourite non-original tunes - "Rain Dogs" by Tom Waits and "Smoke, Smoke, Smoke that Cigarette" by Merle Travis and Tex Williams, 'We're Not Bitter' promises to continue where 'Middle Aged Wasteland' left off. They’re not quite sure exactly where that is, but the Children are ready for the ride.
